Peer Support Camp
A rite of passage for Newlands College Year 9s is the annual Peer Support Camp. Priceless memories are forged under the beaming Waikanae sun as the Year 13 peer support leaders and form teachers induct the newcomers into the Newlands whānau. Photos here.
Tabloids
While inclement weather threatened to derail this year's inter-house spectacular, we went ahead anyway. The day turned out to be a corker with the usual creative array of costumes and party atmosphere mixed with fierce competitive spirit. At day's end Totara had risen phoenix-like from the ashes of many years of failure to emerge as Tabloids champion. This Tabloids was also noteworthy for the inaugural inclusion of the Inter-house Haka Competition. Loads of images here.
Dragon Boating
Weeks of training to paddle as a team culminated in a fun-filled day out in the sparkling Wellington harbour.
Our Darkest day
Like the rest of New Zealand, Newlands College was profoundly shaken by the tragic events that ensued on March 15, a day that will surely live in infamy as the day New Zealand lost its innocence. In a spirit of unity with the victims of this senseless act and with all New Zealanders, Newlands College combined with Newlands Intermediate to send a message of support to Christchurch. The event was captured in the emotionally charged video to the right.
