Celebration of Sports
As the school year enters its final chapter, Term 4 sees us formally celebrating the achievements of our students. First up was the Celebration of Sports evening. Growing in size every year, the event this year was a treat for cricket fans thanks to guest speaker Luke Woodcock: Blackcap. Wellington legend. Newlands oldboy. Celebration of the Arts
Functioning both as an awards ceremony and a chance to relive some of the artistic high points of the year through both live performance and film, the Celebration of the Arts evening is the urbane sophisticate of the prize-giving nights. Below is a video combining a range of student visual artwork with original music compositions by Jordan Jacques and Tim Johnston. Photos of the major award winners here.
Original Music Compositions
Senior Music Technology students produced a bumper crop of bangers this year. Crank the volume and blast the jams below!
Farewell class of 2019
For senior students, there are several finals in Term 4. Final classes, final goodbyes, final exams. An important marker of the closing of one chapter and the beginning of another is the final assembly for each year group, none more-so than the final Year 13 assembly. As is now customary, after the assembly a spine-tingling rendition of the school haka was performed by the entire junior school to awhi the departing year group, providing them with a stirring final memory of their time at Newlands College.
Academic Prizegiving
The school year culminates, for both the the senior and junior school, in the Academic Prizegiving evenings where we publicly acknowledge those who have achieved at the highest levels across the academic spectrum including scholarship recipients and those who have rendered outstanding service to the school. Congratulations to all recipients, but in particular to (pictured below in order) Brandon Ru and Amber Zhu - Joint Dux, Isaac Andrews - Proxime Accessit, Ray Wu - Top in Year 12 and Kimberley Zhu - Top in Year 11.

3 Day Discovery
Now in its 8th year, the 3 Day discovery provides junior students with a fun climax to their year's learning with 3 days spent engaging in a variety of options ranging from tramping to film making and everything in between. Below are a couple of the video projects made by students during the 3 days.
End of the Year for Juniors
After an eventful Term 4 for the Year 9s and 10s with everything from end of year subject examinations to the fun of 3 Day Discovery, it was time to farewell our junior students with their final formal assemblies. The below end of year wrap-up videos provided a fitting capstone to a great year.
