Humanities trip
A group of fortunate Year 12 and 13 students spent the Term 1 holiday break in the UK and Europe for the biannual Humanities Trip. Encompassing three capital cities, four countries and an itinerary that was packed to the gunwales with highlights, it was truly the trip of a lifetime. Check out the travel blog here, photos there and a video recap below.
HP 48HOURS Film-making
Six teams from Newlands College plunged headlong into the ultimate creative maelstrom by entering this year's 48HOURS filmmaking competition. The combination of free V energy drink coupled with sleep deprivation once again resulted in some uproarious, unhinged, cinematic oddities that only this competition can produce. Special mention must go to team Gangnam Craft, whose tongue in cheek film Curse of the Satanist netted them 4 award nominations at the Wellington City final. Here is a playlist of all the films.
Beauty and the Beast
Our musical production this year was the crowd pleasing Disney classic, Beauty and the Beast. The beloved tale of plucky Belle and the interminably grumpy Beast was brought vividly to life on the Newlands stage. Spectacular costumes, frequent laughs and plenty of singalong choruses made this another smash success. Publicity stills here.
Senior Ball
Our senior ball, once again held at the stunning Te Papa, was a glorious night of glitz and glamour. Relive the outfits, the dancing and revelry by checking out these photos.

Wā Ako
A cornerstone of the Wā Ako program is the "Active Learning" project which places students at the centre of their own learning endeavour. The slideshow below features a small snapshot of the diverse passion projects students busied themselves with during the two days "off-timetable" that enabled them to see their learning plans through to fruition.
Photos from the ensuing afternoon where students presented their learning projects can be found here.
