Variety Show
After being somewhat hit or miss over the last few years with the event sometimes running and sometimes not, 2019 drew a line in the sand. A more than solid lineup fuelled by a typically enthusiastic Newlands crowd saw the Variety Show cement a claim for future posterity. Photos here. Trigger warning: Many of these images contain gratuitous depictions of beards.
Noscars
Forced to reschedule a week earlier than anticipated (to the undiluted horror of the Year 12 Ski Trippers), the Noscars organisers decided to simply double down with the biggest and arguably best Noscars in the illustrious history of the event. 19 short films generated some of the scariest scares, heartiest laughs and deepest feels the Embassy theatre had ever witnessed. Once again the Newlands College community showed why they are the best movie audience audience in the world, bedecked in their finest finery and enthusiastically lapping up every minute of the student shorts on display. A full playlist of the films can be found here. Below are the two premier award winners. Photos of the evening here.
Under the Bed by Phoebe Smalley. Best Film winner.

Seb and Isaac's Extraordinary Adventure by Seb McBride and Isaac Andrews. Audience Choice winner.

Colour Run
A new addition to the school calendar was the colour run. Marking the climax of a week dedicated to a celebration of the multicultural richness of the school community, the Colour Run symbolised the melting pot of Newlands College. Participants sprinted through clouds of multi-hued powder emerging as kaleidoscopic embodiments of diversity and acceptance. More photos here.
Year 11 Semi-Formal
Far from fizzling out, Term 3 screamed to an exclamation mark of an ending with a variety of much anticipated events. Amongst them was the Year 11 semi-formal, a well attended, fun night out for all as captured in these photos.

Interhouse Relay
One of our best ever years of interhouse rivalry culminated in suitably epic fashion with the gleefully brutal Interhouse Relay. A resurgent Totara had dominated the interhouse competition this year, but it was Dillan Thiagarajah's Matai who claimed a victory on this event, snatching some credibility back for the House after a year of ignominious defeat. The build up to the big Interhouse Competition finale is captured in the Stella™ video below.
